The history of Saint-Isaacs cathedral starts in first years of Petersburg's existence. 30th of May, according to ecclesiastical calendar, is the day of St.-Isaac Dalmat, also the birthday of Peter the Great. That is why first wooden Isaak's church appeared on the Neva bank in 1710. Several times constructing of the church took place and only in 1818 they started building cathedral using Monferrant's project. The building continued for 40 years. Galvanoplastics was first used.
